CERTIFIED ESL TUTOR/PUBLIC SPEAKING - Helping you communicate confidently in your every day and work life.
How do you respond to thank you in English? It seems like a pretty simple answer: "You're welcome!" But sometimes it depends on what the situation is. If you are saying "Thank you" to someone normally, you're showing appreciation of something that someone did for you. However, there are times when you are thankful in return for something that someone did. So if somebody says "Hey, thanks for helping me out!" You can say, "No, thank you for helping me out!" Or you can say, "You're welcome!" or we say different kinds of things and phrases in conversational English, like "Oh, no worries!" or "Not a problem!" or if it was something that you really enjoyed doing, you would say "Oh, my pleasure! I'd love to help you out. I'd love to do that again." So there are different ways of saying and reciprocating instead of just saying "You're welcome" that we can say after "thank you," so thank you for listening!
