Dinner to aid Avonmore fire victim

A dinner to benefit Mackenzie Mitchell who lost her home in a fire June 15 in Avonmore will begin at noon Sunday at Cool Water Saloon, 1359 Route 56, Kiski Township

The menu will include pulled pork sandwiches, chicken, baked beans, rigatoni, macaroni and cheese, salad, bread and butter. Cost is $5 per plate and there will be a silent auction.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra concert set Sunday

The free 2024 Allegheny County Summer Concert series will feature the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at 8:15 p.m. Sunday at Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater, 4070 Middle Road, Hampton.

Bring a chair. Popup tents and umbrellas are permitted but must be taken down before the performance begins. Dogs are permitted but must be on a leash at all times and be up to date on all vaccinations and licensing. Owners must clean up after their dogs.

July 4: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish is selling tickets for a cash lottery raffle. Winning numbers will be the 1:30 and 7 p.m. Pa. Lottery Daily Pick-3 numbers. Winners will each receive $1,000 and a $100 gift certificate to Naser Foods. Cost: $10, includes two three-digit numbers. Harrison

Today: Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary will sell chances from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a scratch-off lottery ticket raffle in the hospital lobby, 1301 Carlisle St. The winner will receive scratch-off tickets with a face value of $150. The drawing will be at 3 p.m. today. Cost: $2 each, cash or checks accepted. Proceeds will benefit auxiliary projects for the hospital.

Today: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50-50 raffle and final jackpot game.

Saturday: The park rangers at Harrison Hills Park will host a free program about removing invasive species from 9 a.m. to noon. Meet at the park Rachel Carson shelter. All ages welcome. Expect to participate in physical activity. Bring water and wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Tools, gloves and eye protection provided. Reservations required. Leechburg

July 11: A rubber ducky race fundraiser to benefit the borough’s 175th anniversary celebration next year will be at 5 p.m. on the Kiski River. Ducks will be dropped into the river from the walking bridge to Hyde Park and will be fished out at the finish line at the firemen’s boat launch. Prizes will be awarded. Cost: $5 per duck. Ducks are available at Leechburg Public Library, 139 Market St. Checks payable to Leechburg Area Community Association will be accepted.

Lower Burrell

Today: Peoples Library, 3052 Wachter Ave., will host an hour of play with construction supplies at 1 p.m. Details: 724-339-1021.

Saturday: The Joseph “Bud” Myers Farmers Market will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Bon Air School parking lot, 3260 Leechburg Road.

Through June 30: The works of members of the Allegheny Valley League of Artists will be on exhibit during operating hours at Peoples Library, 3052 Wachter Ave. Artists include Don and Debra Pendergast, Chris Reifenstein and Patti Giordano.

New Kensington

Thursday: Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley is selling chances for a Pittsburgh Pirate ticket and basket raffle. Cost: $10. The winner will receive four tickets to the July 19 game versus the Philadelphia Phillies in section 114, a parking pass and two gift baskets. The winner will be drawn ThursdayJuly 1. Cost: $10. Oakmont

Through August 31: Kerr Memorial Museum, 402 Delaware Ave., Oakmont, is featuring an exhibit of elegant fashions of the late 1800s to the Roaring ‘20s at the museum. Parks Township

Today: Parks Township Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7 p.m. in the firehall, 1119 Dalmation Drive. Doors open at 5 p.m.

July 15 to 19: Springdale Free Public Library, 331 School St., will host summer reading camp for children in sixth grade and younger at 11 a.m. at the library. There will be activities and snacks. Saturday: The Clothing Closet at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Clean clothes, belts, shoes and purses in any condition will be accepted during the Clothing Closet on Saturdays. Alternate drop-off and pickup times: 724-882-2185.

Sunday and Tuesday: Alcoholics Anonymous will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St. An opportunity for silent prayer will be at 6:30 p.m.

Washington Township

Today: Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 4078 Route 66. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and sales start at 6 p.m. Free coffee. The kitchen will be open. Players must be at least 18 or accompanied by an adult.
