How to get the Mastercrafted Griffin Gear in The Witcher 3 (Griffin School Set) (2024)

This guide will show you how to start the Scavenger Hunt quest for the Mastercrafted Griffin Gear from the Griffin School witcher set in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt next-gen update, where to find and obtain all the diagrams and the requirements to craft the armor and weapons!

What is Mastercrafted Griffin Gear and who is it for

The Mastercrafted Griffin witcher gear is for level 34 and is an upgrade to theSuperior Griffin witcher gear(level 26), which is an upgrade to theEnhanced Griffin witcher gear(level 18), which is an upgrade to the basic Griffin witcher gear (level 11).

It’s a light armor that increases Experienced earned, chance to cause bleeding as well as resistance to piercing, slashing, elemental, and monster damage.

You need to craft the Basic, Enhanced and Superior armor and swords first as they are part of the requirements to craft the Mastercrafted version. More on that in the Crafting Segment later in this guide.

How to start the Scavenger Hunt quest

You can purchase the fragment from the Hattori, the Master Blacksmith in Hierarch Square. This will start the Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Upgrade Diagrams – Part 4.

Having this map fragment is optional. You can find and obtain the gear diagrams without it and still get things done.

Where to find the Diagrams

There are six diagrams of the Mastercrafted Griffin School Gear. They’re all located on Ard Skellig. The order in which you get the diagrams doesn’t matter. Finding all six will auto-complete the Scavenger Hunt quest related to them.

Mastercrafted Griffin Armor, Gauntlets, Trousers, and Boots diagrams location

These four diagrams are located in the same place. Head Northeast of the Druids Camp.

You have to get to this hill. The easiest way to get there is by following the road along the shore.

There is a level 30 Cyclops guarding the place, be careful to not stand too close to the edge or it might push you to your death.

If you are struggling or have visited this place at a lower level, boost your performance by applying the highest tier Ogroid Oil to your Silver Sword.

Once you’ve defeated the creature, go inside the ruins and immediately turn left. Climb up the ledge.

A few meters ahead you’ll find two chests. The left one contains the Mastercrafted Griffin Armor, Gauntlets, Trousers, and Boots diagrams. Don’t forget to interact with the Place of Power!

This diagram is right in the middle of Ard Skellig. Go to the abandoned village of Boxholm.

Go to the mountain skirt, you’ll find these ruins. Climb the small ledge and walk towards the marked location on this image.

You must go East of Fornhala, and cross the river until you see some ruins.

There’s a big tower that’s impossible to miss. Head inside.

Please note that if you go to this area at night time you will have to face a level 32 Werewolf.

If you opt to face this creature, be sure to apply Cursed Oil to your silver sword. Werewolves are also weak against Moon Dust and Devil’s Puffball. You can use anything with Fire on them, including Igni.

You need Werewolf Mutagen to craft the Werefolf Decoction. This is a convenient opportunity to get two things done at the same time, in case you haven’t found another werewolf mutagen already elsewhere.

How to Craft the Armor and Weapons

This is the fourth Tier of the Griffin School Gear, you need a few rare and/or special things to craft it.

To craft the swords, you need tounlock Master Blacksmith Hattoriin Novigrad. To craft the Armor piece, you need tounlock Master Armorer Yoanain Crow’s Perch.

The Mastercrafted Griffin is a very high-level gear set. This means that to craft all of the items, you will need crafting materials as well as the previous versions of each item – theSuperior Griffin gear.

Crafting Materials Requirements

Here is a list of some of the more interesting crafting materials you may not have on you and info on how to obtain them as easily and as cheaply:

Meteorite Silver Ingot
Can be purchased from Armorers and other merchants. You can also craft it from Meteorite Ingot and Silver Ingot or Dismantle certain items to get it.

Cured Draconid Leather
Can be purchased from merchants. (it’s a bit expensive but easy to find). Can also dismantle Heavy Armor or Monster Carapace to get it.

Dimeritium Plate
Can be looted, crafted from Dimeritium Ingots, or purchased directly from a merchant (most often found in armorer and blacksmith shops).

Meteorite Silver Plate
Can be purchased from Armorers and other craftsmen and merchants. You can also craft it yourself from Meteorite Silver Ingots.

Dimeritium Ingot
Can be looted, purchased, or crafted from Dimeritium Ore and Glowing Glowing Ore Ingot. You can dismantle some gear pieces.

Before you resort to purchasing an expensive crafting material, make sure you don’t have a way to craft it. The Dimeritium Plate, for example, is quite expensive even at this late stage of the game. It can be crafted from a number of ingredients, many of which you will likely have on you or can purchase cheaply enough. And always check what you can dismantle and what it dismantles into.

The rest of the items you can get by purchasing from alchemists, merchants or armorers, and blacksmiths. You can also get them by dismantling items at an armorer or blacksmith.

Where to find an Armorer and Blacksmith

Mastercrafted sets can only be crafted by a Master Armorer and Master Blacksmith. Complete the secondary quests to unlock theMaster Armorer Yoanaat Crow’s Perch andMaster Blacksmith Hattoriin Novigrad. Linked above are the walkthrough guides on how to unlock both of them.

Mastercrafted Griffin Gear Set Stats

The Mastercrafted Edition of the Griffin witcher gear is an improvement in any aspect compared to the previous tier. You get additional rune slots as well.

The + numbers in the images below are actual differences between the Superior and Mastercrafted versions of the set.

How to get the Legendary Version of the Mastercrafted Griffin Set

The Legendary Mastercrafted Griffin School witcher gear set is available in New Game Plus (NG+) in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. The Scavenging Quest and all diagrams are located in the exact same places as in the normal game.
