Is Firefox owned by China? ›

Who owns Firefox? Firefox is made by Mozilla Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the not-for-profit Mozilla Foundation, and is guided by the principles of the Mozilla Manifesto.

The biggest disadvantage of using Firefox is compatibility. As Chrome commands a large share of the browser market, many websites are optimized for browsers using Chromium, which Firefox doesn't use. This can cause websites to not show properly, if at all.

It may not have the same old 30% market share but it did rank fourth with a desktop market share of 6.58% as of October 2022 with a whopping 210 million users by December 2022. Firefox is still one of the most popular browsers for desktop users, but not due to a lack of competition snapping at its heels.

Mozilla Firefox, or simply Firefox, is a free and open-source web browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation and its subsidiary, the Mozilla Corporation.

Firefox is an open-source software (just like Linux) that goes the extra mile to keep its users private online. It doesn't collect as much user data as Chrome and allows you to block trackers by default. Chrome, on the other hand, offers a fast and streamlined experience with a clear and simple interface.

Firefox's default privacy settings are much stronger than Chrome's – and we have additional features to prevent websites from tracking you, such as fingerprint blocking, as well as your choice of add-ons for ad blocking.

These include constant removal of features, bad coding paradigms, poor memory management, and hidden telemetry. In short, Firefox simply doesn't work that well anymore for developers or ordinary users who just want to use their browser, thank you very much.

Firefox is still very much alive and well as Mozilla has no plans to stop development of their web browsers for desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) and mobile versions for iOS and Android. Firefox has been their main product.

Why is Firefox changing its name? ›

As such, the original “Firefox” branding no longer accurately reflects the broad scope of Mozilla's offerings. The renaming is intended to create a more consistent brand experience across all Mozilla surfaces, driving higher awareness of the portfolio of Mozilla products.

Firefox is safe as far as browsers go because it has many security features baked into it, including blocking ad trackers, phishing and malware protection, etc.

Web Browsers

Mozilla Firefox works in China. Google Chrome does not. Please note that some online services will look slightly different in each of the web browsers. Firefox should be used when accessing Blackboard or using Blackboard Collaborate.
