How do I use VPN on my smart TV?
A VPN is a Virtual Private Network, which is a tool that allows you to encrypt your internet connection using a public computer.
VPN's allow you to route all of your internet traffic through a secure connection. Most smart TVs will have apps available to make using the VPN easy. If your VPN server is running on a public IP address, you will need to use a computer to make your connections. To begin, go to www.hidemyass.com and add your server location. Enter your desired country and the name of the VPN server where you'd like to have your smart TV connect to. Click submit and you'll get a link to send to your smart TV or device (if you aren't able to access the site). Next, we need to install some software on the device that you are trying to connect to. Once the HMA installation is complete, you can follow the onscreen instructions for configuring your Smart TV. In some cases, you'll need to add your Smart TV to a list in HMA's settings or re-enter your information, or follow a separate HMA setup guide on your TV or smart device. If you're concerned about accidentally connecting to your neighbor's network when you go on a HMA server, you can change the settings to private mode. On your Smart TV, go to Settings > HMA Settings > Change Private Mode Setting.

As a security expert, I've used a number of VPNs while traveling or for remote access, for work. Here's my favorite VPN app, the best for the Smart TV platform, and the best VPN for Android as well.

Samsung has built-in VPN which allow you to connect to the internet through your Samsung's private VPN network and thus secure your connection from prying eyes as well as protecting your identity by creating a secured connection. The VPN is an App, you can create a VPN connection with: Your Samsung phone via WiFi (you can use "Virtual Private Network" settings of wifi router to set up a connection). (as far as I remember it wasn't possible with "direct" bluetooth connection). You don't have to enable it in connection options or somewhere.

When Amazon and Samsung released their respective Fire TV Stick and Smart TV last year, the Fire TV Stick was criticized because you couldn't install OpenVPN on the Fire TV Stick without having to be connected to a network.
